Timing Errors
Early inflation
Balloon inflates before the Aortic valve is closed which results in
- Premature closure of AoV
- ↑ LVEDV/LVEDP
- ↑ PCWP
- ↑LV afterload
- Aortic regurgitation
Late inflation
Balloon inflates after the dicrotic notch resulting in
- Insufficient diastolic augmentation and coronary perfusion
Early deflation
Balloon deflates too early resulting in
- Sub-optimal coronary perfusion
- Sub-optimal afterload reduction
- Retrograde coronary artery flow
Late deflation
Balloon deflates after onset of LV systolie resulting in
- ↑ LV afterload
- ↑ myocardial oxygen consumption
- Afterload reduction is absent
- ↓ LV ejection
